From the Mountains to the Capital: AI is Taking Root in VA Schools

How Pulaski and Richmond educators are leading the way in AI adoption

Helping Virginia Educators Gear Up for 2025–2026 with Real AI Solutions

Last week, T.E.A.C.H. had the opportunity to work with passionate educators at two dynamic events: the Pulaski County Middle Schools PLX Conference in Pulaski, VA and the AI Ready RVA Teacher Workshop in Richmond City. At both events, we didn’t just introduce tools — we modeled practical AI-driven workflows designed to lighten the load for teachers and support school and district leaders. As educators still serving in a Virginia public school system ourselves, we’re not speaking from theory — we’re delivering what we actively use. Our approach is grounded in real classroom and central office experience, and we’re committed to helping divisions across the state of Virginia start strong for the 2025–2026 school year. Whether it's lesson planning, data analysis, or strategic decision-making, our AI processes are built to meet your district’s goals head-on.

AI Ready RVA: Assessment Reinvented with AI

At the AI Ready RVA Teacher Workshop in Richmond City, we led a session titled “Using AI as a Sous Chef: Designing Assessment Menus for K–12 Classrooms.” The analogy? Just as a sous chef preps the ingredients so the head chef can shine, AI preps the workflows so teachers can lead rich, engaging instruction with clarity and purpose.

Here’s what we covered:

🍽️ Formative + Summative Assessment Support

  • Teachers learned how to use AI to generate quick checks, adaptive questions, and even give immediate feedback on student writing.

  • We modeled unit projects that integrate AI for rubric creation, scaffolding, and personalized support across all learners — including EL, SPED, and Gifted students.

🎙️ Creative & Authentic Assessments

  • From podcasts to dioramas, we showed how AI can support creative output while still aligning to standards, the 5 Cs, and SEL competencies.

  • Teachers explored using audio tools like Otter and Word to capture student thinking and create reflection artifacts.

📊 Smart Data = Early Intervention

  • We introduced workflows that allow teachers to collect and analyze real-time performance data.

  • With these tools, teachers can spot learning gaps earlier — before traditional assessments even flag them.

👩‍🍳 The Big Takeaway: AI doesn’t replace teachers — it frees them.
Teachers are still the head chef. But AI? It’s prepping the kitchen, washing the dishes, and handing you the ingredients. That’s what makes intentional, differentiated, and efficient assessment finally sustainable.

Pulaski County PLX Conference: AI-Generated Lesson Planning That Actually Works

At the PLX Conference for Pulaski County Middle Schools, we led a hands-on workshop titled “AI for Educators, By Educators: Practical, Safe, and Standards-Aligned Lesson Planning.” Our session wasn’t theoretical — it was built from real classroom experience, with live demos and immediate application.

Here’s what we focused on:

🧩 What Makes a Strong, Virginia-Ready Lesson Plan?

  • VDOE-aligned content (including VLA, Math, HSS, and CTE standards)

  • Differentiation for EL, SPED, and Gifted learners

  • Use of real student data (like VALLS, IEPs, and screeners) to front-load content

  • Gradual release methods, small group instruction, and student choice

💻 Live Demo: Building Safe, Ethical, AI-Powered Lessons
We walked teachers through a real-time AI planning process that emphasized:

  • Prompt templates for clarity and efficiency

  • Uploading anonymized student data

  • Applying ethical safeguards to protect student privacy

  • Editing AI-generated plans to meet their instructional style

🚀 Teachers Tried It Themselves
Using ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, teachers entered a VA standard, added student data, selected instructional strategies, and generated complete lesson plans — in under 15 minutes. The confidence boost was immediate.

🔐 We Closed with Data Security Tips + Resources
We modeled how to anonymize student info when using AI, shared a full prompt library, and provided next steps for continuing safe implementation across their school.

📚 Want your teachers to feel this confident too?
Let’s bring this session to your district. We’re ready to help your educators start the 2025–2026 school year with AI-aligned lessons that are safe, differentiated, and VDOE-compliant.

In this hands-on session, we modeled how AI can:

  • Preload lesson plans with standards and student needs

  • Analyze local SOL data for targeted remediation with anonymized scripts to adhere to student data privacy.

  • Generate small group supports aligned with real student performance
